Brad Hurst has created four "fantasy" cards--Two Confederate cards and two Union cards. They print out at the same scale as the existing cards, and are easy to add to the deck. As an added bonus Brad has also provided the backs of the cards. These replace the "Fantasy Cards" link below---Just click on this link:
I already have my cards in protective sleeves (like those used by CCG players), so I just cut cardstock, attached the cards, and slipped them into the sleeve.
New Cards for your BCOF Battle Deck
Below is an email I received from Brad--a look at one turn of BCOF in a recent game, with one of the new cards playing a key role:
Wow, big fun in a solitaire game I'm playing right now using the new
cards. I'm in deck two, and the USA has recently been on a nice
run but lost at Gettysburg the same time they won a Major in the West.
Going into turn 11 or so, USA CP 8 and CSA CP 11. USA drives on
in the West and places Corinth, and then makes a Turning movement
to put them at Vicksburg. Just as you predicted before in email, the CSA
is able to seize this opportunity and Plays "Pemberton and J. Johnston
Unite" and the battle is on.
Draw turns out to be 8 to 13 (CSA guessed the war would be out
west so had all CP's there).
The battle raged for two days, complete with some typical Bragg
bungling and a Season of Disarray, but the Rebels eek out a 1 point
victory! This gets followed by War Fatigue, and during the battle
the USA had tossed in Emancipation for its Flank attack, which
nearly turned the battle.
Now that was exciting! Certainly the turning point. I think the
battle would have been lost by the CSA had they not
won at Gettysburg the prior turn...but, I doubt I would have chanced
the Unite card without the CP advantage.
One consideration as you play around with the new cards, its such
a risk for the CSA, it might be worth adding +1 CP if they win the
battle as a further incentive, though in this case, CSA maxed out
at 12 CP's, so wouldn't have mattered. I'm neutral on this small
change right now, so wouldn't plan on changing the card at this
time.
It sure makes for good storytelling!
